What is incense
Incense is a blend of aromatic herbal ingredients that give off aromatic smoke when burned. Incense has been used for a number of situations and for various reasons, probably for millennia. Burning them for aromatherapy purposes, to alleviate health problems, to create a good mood and good emotions is common. Incense has traditionally been used to clean rooms and environments, and to perform spiritual activities, meditation and the like. The incense also helps to eliminate standing, bad air in the room like ancient air freshener.
CHIMI POE JORKHANG
Chimi Poe Jorkhang incenses has a long history and tradition has been passed down from generation to generation. Incense is made in the northern part of Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital, called Dechencholing. The incense recipes used in Chimi Poe Jorkhang come from many famous Tibetan and Bhutanese scholars and yogis such as Guru Padmasambhava, Terton Choeji Lingpa and others.
Slightly more than 100 known recipes 23 are currently in use. Today, the tradition of making incense is carried on by Sonam Tashi and his family.
